XB class loco like all IRS locos were handsome machines but this particular class failed to perform to the expected standards and after the disastrous Bhita accident, these locomotives were relegated to stopping passenger duties only. - Mike Satow


XT class 0-4-2T locomotive at Amritsar. - Mike Satow


HPS class engines were one of the most succesful BESA engines that were built well into the IRS era! Popularly known as `Mail Engines' they were loved by their crews and public alike.


XE class locomotives were the largest unarticulated steam locomotives ever used on Indian Railways and they used to weigh upto 200 tons in working order!


39 locos in all of the D4 class 4-6-0 were built for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway. Some were later rebuilt with Lentz valve gear and some with Caprotti. 411 Hero built by Vulcan Foundary in 1921 was a war memorial engine. Note the unique smoke deflector.
